Jesus wept?

When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. "Where have you laid him?" he asked. "Come and see, Lord," they replied. Jesus wept. (John 11:33-35)

Allow me to quote something profound from Brad Stanley's book.

"John 11:33 says that Jesus was "deeply moved in spirit and troubled." The Greek word here is embrimaomal, which means "to have indignation on; to groan with anger." There is actually a connotation that suggests the feeling of injustice. Jesus was disturbed by what He saw. Jesus knew that Lazarus was soon to be raised to life again. His reaction was not from a sense of powerlessness but that of brokenness over what He saw in those around Him. (italics added by me). It was simply not supposed to be this way. This was not what God intended for His creation. Something had been disrupted; the universe had fallen from its intended glory. Death, loss, and suffering had never been His plan for you and me."

He goes on to say...

"The brokenness of God's heart over the state of His creation is so profound."

Hmm....this book is going to change my life, I do believe. Thank you, God.. and thank you, Brad for writing what is on God's heart!

Any thoughts?

I think that began in the Garden of Eden after the fall--the seperation of intimacy that God once had with His creation was disrupted. Not only from sin but from the issue of human shame and self consciousness that Adam and Eve experienced. Before that, there was only God awareness. Then 'self' moved in! And we know what that does!

Oh, I have started to write my comments, but I just want to talk about them. Just so you know...this part of the book (the beginning, Chapter 1, I think) I was weeping. God continues to set me free. I am going slow and deep as well.

I love you. Talk to you SOON!
