It was one of the most overwhelming 2 months of my life and as I flew out of there, headed for home, I told God I would never go back. No more missions, no more YWAM, no more India. But I still loved God.
I quickly learned that you can't love God without doing what He asks. (well, you can but what fun is that?) You can't just be a fan and profess His name, you have to follow Him. Even to the ends of the earth, if that's what He tells you to do.
Anyway, here I am, 6 1/2 years later... going back to India! And I'm very happy about it! I believe this time is going to be different, because I'm different.
I just booked my ticket this afternoon. I got a great deal on a one way flight.. and will be taking off on October 13th... never to return. Just kidding :)
But seriously, I think about missionaries back in the 1900's, who set off on ships literally never to return. In the 1700's, the Moravians kissed their families goodbye as they sold themselves into slavery in order to make sure other slaves knew Jesus.
Granny Brand left her posh home in England to share the Good News on the Mountains of Death in S. India. She literally laid down her life for the remote hill tribes. Even when she became a widow at an early age, that didn't stop her. She was unwilling to concede. She is one of my hero's.
I'm sure there's countless other stories of radical (root) Jesus lovers who said goodbye to their families knowing it would be the last time they ever saw them again. I can't imagine.
I really admire those people though. Their stories give me life. They fill me with hope and courage.. and excitement. I'm so grateful for the ones who have gone before us; the great cloud of witnesses cheering us on.
I wonder if they look at us and think... "wow, they really have it easy now! they can just jump on a plane and be on the other side of the world in less than 24 hrs. It took us 3 months to do that on a ship!"
Oh, to be a fly on the wall in heaven..
