this morning i had a delightful little time watching the neighbor wash her water buffalo's. in the west, they wash cars. in India, they wash buffalo's :)
i walked to the other side of the roof and saw another neighbor gathering manure with her bare hands, one of the same hands that she will later use to take her lunch. she then made it into big patties and placed all along the top of the wall to bake in the sun. they don't have easy access to firewood here, so manure is the next best thing.

Happy birthday, Vishwas! he turned 6 today.
in true Indian fashion, Vishwas' parents prepared a feast of biryani
for all the other students, teachers, and volunteers.
that's the biggest pot of biryani i've ever seen!
