Amy, there was a time when I was living in the Thar desert in Phalodi and Jaisalmer and cultural stresses oftentimes were just too much. I constantly was a messy ball of confusion, irritation at cultural differences and weakness. This sunset was the saving grace of the day each day. I would sit on the rooftop and sip instant coffee or chai and marvel at the beauty of it. Someone told me "the sun rises in Calcutta and sets in Pakistan". While in Rajasthan I always looked out into the sunset and wondered what was happening in Pakistan as the sun was setting. The mystery and wonder always kept me going another day just to see that sunset again.
